Small Bacon Wrapped Smokeys
These Small Bacon Wrapped Smokeys have been one of my favorite appetizers since I was a kid! Wiener sausages wrapped in crispy bacon, dipped in gooey brown sugar. An easy recipe for a party!
Bacon Recipe
When my mom first gave me the recipe, it was just vague instructions on a piece of paper.
There are only three ingredients in these addictive appetizers, but when I first made them, they weren’t as good as they’ve always been.
So I came back to ask them their secrets and I’m sharing them with you for the BEST Bacon Wrapped Onions with Brown Sugar!
Start by cutting the bacon into 3 pieces. If you leave the strips in longer, they will never crisp.
THERE MAY BE SOME PIECE OF BACON. IN ORDER!
Cook it and save it to add to an omelette in the morning, or use in another side dish like a goat cheese and bacon log or a jalapeño cream cheese dip.
HOW TO MAKE SMALL CANE SMOKE
Wrap a piece of bacon around a Small Smokey and place in the pan. No need to fix with a toothpick, just fold the seam over.
The pan you use makes a big difference. I asked my mom how she made this and she said she used a glass pan, not a foil-lined pan.
To clean afterwards, fill the pot with hot tap water and let it stand for a few minutes. The caramelized sugar will melt.
After wrapping all sausages in bacon, sprinkle with brown sugar.
A smaller pan works well for this so the sugar lands on the sausages and not between the cracks and rows.
Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours after adding the sugar. You can cook them right away if you want, but if you wait they’ll get ten times better!
That was council no. 1 my mother. Marinating makes the difference in taste.
How long have you been cooking bacon smoky?
When everything is ready to cook, remember to uncover the mold. After 40 minutes, start checking. You’ll know they’re done when the bacon is crispy and the sugar is melted and caramelized.
