FOR THE TOMATO SAUCE:
– 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes.
– 2 Tbsp.Of tomato paste.
– 1 Tbsp.Of brown sugar.
– 1 Tbsp.Of red wine vinegar.
– 1 Tsp.Of dried basil.
– 1/2 Tsp.Of dried oregano.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1st Step
Remove any outer leaves that are damaged from the cabbage. Carefully remove the cabbage’s interior while preserving the head. In a large saucepan of boiling water, blanch the whole cabbage for approximately 5 minutes. This will aid in softening the leaves, making them more manageable.
2nd Step
Remove the cabbage from the pot, allow it to chill, and separate the leaves while ensuring their integrity. Remove the leaves dense veins to make them more malleable for rolling.
3rd Step
Combine the ground beef (or beef-pork mixture), cooked white rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, dried parsley, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a large mixing basin. The ingredients should be thoroughly combined to produce a flavorful filling for the cabbage rolls.
4th Step
Place a tablespoon of the filling near the stem end of a cabbage leaf. Similar to rolling a burrito, fold the sides of the leaf over the filling and roll it securely. Repeat with the remaining cabbage leaves and filling until all cabbage rolls have been assembled.
5th Step
Combine the pureed tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, red wine vinegar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper in a separate saucepan. Cook the sauce, stirring intermittently, over medium heat until it simmers. Allow it to simmer for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the flavors to combine and the sauce to slightly thicken.
6th Step
Spread a layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a wide, deep pot. Place the cabbage rolls in a single layer on top of the sauce. Pour the remainder of the tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls, completely coating them. Cover the container and simmer the cabbage rolls over low heat for one to one and a half hours, or until the cabbage leaves are tender and the flavors have melded.
7th Step
Once the rolls are cooked to perfection, transfer them gingerly to a serving platter. They should be served heated with flavorful tomato sauce. This dish pairs well with crusty bread or mashed potatoes, and it is certain to become a family classic.
